Think of it this way:   Picture a bowl of Vanilla Ice Cream. There’s nothing wrong with vanilla – it’s the most popular flavor of ice cream. But even the richest, most flavorful vanilla ice cream is still just vanilla ice cream.

Now wouldn’t the same bowl of plain Vanilla ice cream be more appealing covered in hot fudge, whipped cream and a cherry on top? The “Setting the Stage” Service provides the hot fudge, whipped cream, and cherry on top for that plain, old vanilla listing.

What’s in a Name?

The Stage Coach was recently inspired to start a new series of posts based around Street Names in the Austin Metro Area, having recently seen several streets that made him wonder, “Where did this word come from?” and “Why on Earth would you name a street that?”  For fun, we’ll be posting street names in neighborhoods we visit, researching the etymological roots, pointing out historical importance, or just plain making fun of them.

Several weeks ago, we visited a home in S.W. Austin, in the Meridian Subdivision, called: Alophia.

According to Wikipedia,
Alophia is a small genus of perennial, herbaceous and bulbous plants in the iris family (Iridaceae). The genus comprise five species that occur from center and southern North America to Brazil and Argentina. The genus is closely related to Herbertia, Cypella and Tigridia, differentiating from them by some characters of the stamen and the gynoecium. The genus name is derived from the Greek words a-, meaning “without”, and lophos, meaning “crest”.

Meaning: Without a crest
Latin Pronunciation: a-LOW-fee-uh

Alophia drummondii is the full name of Propeller Flower.
